The inspiration for our coffee roastery came from lively conversations with family around the kitchen table. We developed a plan on long wind-blown walks with the dogs. HINBA coffee was born!
My story begins globe-trotting, as family baggage, while Dad explored the world as a geologist. Meanwhile we kept a cottage to come home to by Loch Melfort, on the West Coast of Scotland. My family also traces its roots to neighbouring Kilmartin Glen, which is famous for its ancient standing stones.
Later I worked my own way around the world as a deckhand and carpenter. When I travelled back to Central and South America I was introduced to real coffee. And so, inspired by the flavours of the world I have come back to the unspoiled Isle of Seil (Hinba!)* to create the finest roasted coffee in the best environment I know.
*Hinba is a legendary Inner Hebridean island, thought to be the Isle of Seil. Brendan the Navigator brought tranquillity to its shores in the age before the Vikings.
